DAV ride - 2005 -
(flyer below)
This 4th of July, why not make support for those who paid a high price
so that we could celebrate our freedom part of your holiday festivities?

Join the HOG chapter 422 and other motorcycle enthusiasts on
the DAV Vets Run, Saturday, 02 July. This event that is in
its 17th year. This is the single biggest fundraiser for Longmont DAV
chapter 16. It was started by High Country Harley-Davidson, first to
help raise funds to cover the shortfall of funds to build the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the state capital in Denver.
Featuring the Deja-Blu band.
The very best of Classic Rock, Blues & Soul
(303) 517-9852 cell

The music is a danceable mix of rock, classic rock, funk, R &
B & blues with a little swing thrown in for fun. With such
a variety of music-there is something for every one of all ages. |
Last year was a great showing, one that everyone in the chapter should
be proud of. This year should build upon that success. To help we are
planning for a live band. This will be with the pig & beef roast,
cooked again by our own chapter’s Doug & brother Greg Risedorf,
at the ride’s end, again held at the Moose outdoor pavilion in
Longmont.
Even if you are unable to help work, or worse, not make the event,
tell some of your riding buddies, or put a flier up at work - you can
make the 2005 DAV Run an even greater success. Fliers are at the dealership,
take some and put them up where other riders may see them. If everyone
takes two and puts them up somewhere, that is about 250 fliers that
may attract a new, first time attendee.
In the previous 10 years benefiting from our Vets Run, Longmont DAV
chapter 16 has been able to donate over $70,000 to veterans in Boulder
County and State Veteran Nursing Homes in Colorado. These donations
have been cash donations, RTD bus passes, food gift certificates, and
fruit baskets for elderly veterans at Thanksgiving.
DAV member veterans work the stops, which makes this event unique.
These veterans truly appreciate each and every rider who come by. The
stops include American Legions and Veteran of Foreign War posts (VFW)
which usually have a grand welcome for all on the 4th of July weekend.
And ScooterHinge, in Mead, is a phenomenal event in and of itself. Last
year we had to get riders out in order to maintain a schedule. It is
a rental hall with biker flair. Over 30 antique classic pre-Evo motorcycles
are on display, most panhead or earlier.
Again this year, the lucky poker hand winner will walk away with $1,000
in prize money. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and an event T-shirt,
something asked for last year.
Oh yes, back to the first Vets Run, the cost was $12 per person 17
years ago. This year’s event, only $15 per person, not bad, hey?
If only housing in Boulder County kept such a rate of increase!
And now some statistics.
- In 2002 we grew the 14th annual DAV Vets Run to
pull in 198 riders and raised $3,256
- In 2003 we improved it further, and building on
the previous year, we attracted 251 riders raising $4,850 in the first
year we ended at the Moose and Greg & Doug Risedorf cooked Darrel
Johnston's donated the pigs.
- The 2004 event came in way beyond our expectations
- 365 riders raising $5,606!
