High Country Chapter Colorado #422 LAM
Fundraising
The
T-Shirts read: Can you say "Lymphangioleiomyomatosis"
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis, better
known as LAM, is a progressive lung disease that affects women
almost exclusively, usually during their childbearing years. LAM
often goes misdiagnosed as asthma, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis.
Scientists estimate that there could be as many as 250,000 LAM
patients worldwide. |
The LAM
Foundation began in1995 as a grass roots effort and has evolved
into an organization that is described by the National Heart, Lung,
and Blood Institute (NHLBI) as "a model for voluntary health agencies."
Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Foundation is the only LAM organization
which embodies all of the elements required to move LAM research from
the laboratory to the clinic.
The LAM Foundation embraces women with LAM and their families, provides
support and education, engages scientists and doctors, and raises funds
for the study of LAM. With research as its central mission, the Foundation
has elevated LAM from the ranks of rare and forgotten diseases to the
forefront of pulmonary medicine. The LAM Foundation funded the first
LAM research that resulted in the fundamental understanding of the genetic
cause of LAM and the dawn of previously unthinkable hope.
The
2nd Annual LAM fundraiser
- HOGs, DOGs and RODs bike and car show had
19 car entries, everything from camaro's and corvette's to touring
cars and hot rods. The 1st place Rod winner was Dennis R. with
his 1968 Camaro and 2nd place was Larry J. for his 1955 Chevy.
The first place HOG winner was Jody P. with her totally redone
Heritage and 2nd place was Michelle M. with her Fat Boy.
In the 2nd Annual HOGs, DOGs and RODs bike and car show, the
High Country HOG Chapter Ladies of Harley raised $2,494
($1,000 last year). The money is raised for the
disease Lymphangioleiomyomatosis, a rare lung disease that affects
women. The LAM Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to the research
and treatment of the disease. There is not yet a cure and the
only option at this time is a lung transplant. See
the 2007 pictures here.
