High Country HOG Chapter Officers

DaveAssistant Director - Dave Perry (former Events officer)
ORIGIN: New Mexico & Minnesota
FAVORITE PASTIME: Dave - Riding the Harley (any excuse to ride), Going on State HOG rallies & Riding with friends.

FAVORITE PASTIME: Val - Riding as a passenger on the back of Dave's bike, Playing with our dogs & horses, Being with family & friends & Watching the beautiful Colorado sunrises (yes we are up that early to see them)!

BIO: Dave: I ve had 5 bikes so far & I won t say anything about some day getting another one, as Val will be reading this & won t like that comment, so I am very very pleased with my Harley today, I really am, just would be nice to have a spare one around.

My first bike was an All State that I had to assembly before I could ride it, yes, it actually came home in a cardboard box & I got it together & rode up & down the streets of New Mexico - I was only 14 at the time. Then I graduated to a Honda 250 when I was 16, then I went to a Yamaha 400cc dirt bike & then I quit riding for a long long long time. The kids were grown & gone & I thought I d like to get another bike & of course this time it HAD to be a Harley. I bought a used 1993 Softail Custom about 4 years ago. Val would have NOTHING to do with it, so the first years of ownership I only put on a few 1000 miles & she kept asking when I was going to sell it. Then we were invited to go on a ride with the Chapter in the fall of 2001 & that was the first time Val got on the bike. She enjoyed riding & we both really enjoyed the people from the Chapter. We pretty well knew right then & there we wanted to be a part of this Chapter. Then out of the clear blue I came home from a trip & she asked if I wanted a new bike!! I just had to call a friend & tell him what happen & his words to me were, Dave, be afraid, be VERY VERY afraid. That was a year ago November (2001) & I quickly took her up on the offer & bought a new 2002 Road King & she s been riding with me ever since. Now I can t get her off the back & unto her own, she enjoys sitting back, taking in all the beauty & smells that go along with riding & just relaxing, letting me do all the work . We have had so much fun with this group and look forward to another year of riding with them.

BIO Val: Well, my husband has said it all & it s the truth. I really did not like riding because of past experiences that I had, so when he wanted to get a Harley I told him he was on his own; until that beautiful day in September/October 2001 when we rode with the Chapter up the mountaintop to see the changing color of the leaves. Then I realized how much I was missing, that sitting in a car was not the same as on a bike - what a revelation. Ever since then I look forward to hopping on the back of his bike & going wherever, whenever. And I like being the passenger, that way I can talk all I want - people we ride with have said to Dave does she ever quit talking, she s like a Chatty Cathy . They look in their mirrors & see my mouth going 100 mph & Dave s head going up & down & this big smile on his face. He s been asked if he hears what I m saying & he just nods his head up & down & smiles!! We did some pretty good riding for real first year bikers. Dave was able to go to Sturgis for the first time last year (2002) & the Colorado State Rally. We both got to go to Montana s State Rally & New Mexico s State Rally. We also decided to trailer the bike to Texas & do some riding in Austin & Fredericksburg (where we learned you never want to ride your bike thru low water crossings especially when you have a bald tire)!! From there we went to the Motorcycle Rendezvous in Las Cruces, New Mexico & then we headed home.

This events coordinating thing is new to us, but we sure are having fun getting to know the people in the Chapter, making new friends, reestablishing old friendships & really having a ball with the other Officers - they truly do like to have fun & are always full of laughs & stories. We look forward to this year of who knows what, but we re sure going to have fun doing it!
